Gallery at New World Stages Presents: FLASHBACK: STREET SCENES BY DARIA DESHUK
THE LARRY RIVERS YEARS

July 11 – September 5, 2011

Opening Reception: Thursday, August 4, 5-8 pm

New York, NY – July 13, 2011 – Gallery at New World Stages, located at 343 West 49th Street in
New York City, announces the opening of Flashback: Street Scenes by Daria Deshuk The Larry Rivers
Years, an exhibition of 24 original oil paintings by Daria Deshuk.  The show will be on view from July 11
through September 5, 2011, with an Opening Reception on August 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.

“This series is about creating snapshots of life, my chosen imagery takes that reality and depth of the
viewer to a level of universal and subjective intimacy. With paint and brush I strive to capture the
essence and atmosphere of the ordinary and mindless vignettes of daily life, said Deshuk. "The work
explores Intensity, Interaction, Passion and Mediation, the individual references the collective and art is
created. The artist as voyeur steals selectively from the Public environment of streets, parks, images that
define a New York City American experience.  Far beyond the standardized interpretation of reality
provided by photography, Painting allows me to capture the essence of human experience condensed
into the stolen moment, my choices as an artist extend reality by leading the eye in the re-orchestration
of light space and the pure beauty of paint itself," concluded Deshuk.

Daria Deshuk studied Art at Parson's School of Design she received her BFA in Painting in 1978. Daria
found herself part of the exciting art scene in the early eighties living in the East Village, receiving a MFA
in Painting from Hunter College. She was a member of P.S.122 Artist Space, working and exhibiting for
10 years. Daria met the artist Larry Rivers and at the age of 22, began a companionship of 15 years.
Their son Sam Deshuk Rivers was born in 1985.  Daria now resides in Bridgehampton, NY full-time, with
her Partner David Kushnir.

Designer Toy Awards 2011

CLUTTER MAGAZINE RELEASES SHORTLIST OF NOMINEES FOR GLOBAL COMPETITION

TOP 5 NOMINEES IN EACH OF 22 CATEGORIES SELECTED FROM ENTRIES FROM 106 COUNTRIES
(New York, NY, July 15, 2011) - Clutter Magazine today announced the shortlist of nominees for the first ever international Designer Toy Awards (DTA).

The shortlist, comprised of the 5 top nominees in each of the 22 categories of the DTA, represents not only the most creative and innovative designers, customizers, manufacturers and champions of the Designer Toy Movement; but also trendsetters on a global level.

There are two categories of the DTA: Board Voted Awards and Community Choice Awards. The shortlist of nominees for the Community Choice Awards was selected by fans around the world. Over the past 2 months, 3,000 designer toy aficionados voted for their favorites in each of 9 categories.

"We’re overwhelmed by the amount of public participation in the voting process,” says Miranda O’Brien, Editor-in-Chief of Clutter Magazine. “Their picks represent a new wave in the Art Toy Community and will help make the Designer Toy Awards a huge milestone for the movement.”

The shortlist of nominees for the Board Voted Awards was selected by the 49 A-list art toy stars of the DTA Board of Judges. The international Board of industry luminaries including Paul Budnitz, Ron English, Frank Kozik and Tara McPherson, to name a few, are also currently reviewing the shortlist in every category to determine the winners. The winners will be revealed at a live ceremony beginning at 9:30pm on Thursday, July 21st at the infamous Munky King The Black Ball party during San Diego Comic Con 2011.

"When voting, I looked for unique qualities of design, something that was coming out of nowhere, someone who pushed inspiration." said artist and illustrator Pete Fowler, DTA Board Member and designer of “The Toy King” DTA award.

"When voting, basically I focused on what sensibilities about the specific piece drew me into it and which one would I want in my own collection, sitting on my shelf. I thought about the toy I would want to buy." said Tara McPherson, artist and DTA Board Member.

The full shortlist of nominees for each category is available at http://www.designertoyawards.com/categories.
